Book + Movie = Lazy summer weekend

Two gorgeous summer days in this southern state of Virginia.

Book + Movie = Yet another lazy summer weekend.

Book : 'Foreign Body' by Robin Cook. The latest from this medical fiction writer doesnt impress. Even though the topic handles a new age phenomenon called 'medical tourism' which is all about surgical procedures being "outsourced" to countries like India where the facilities are easier to access, san the prohibitive prices as well as pains in dealing with insurance companies. The plot overall seems to progressively weaken and fails to hold one's pique like his other masterpieces. And towards the end, it all just fizzles out making you want to turn pages and get it done as soon as possible.
This seemed one of his weakest plots thus far.

Movie : 'Kismet Konnection'. The underlying concept of the movie was that ill-luck seems to plague the hero right after he finishes his education and how, out of desperation, he resorts to taking help from an oracle called Haseena Bano who tells him that he would soon find his lucky charm. Which, of course, is none other than the heroine. And then the rest is all about wooing the girl and saving the world, with a few songs in between, some comic relief and oodles of dragging later- you get to see 'The End' sign. Vidya Balan, as always, just neednt have been around. Her character, as most of her characters go, is loosely defined and portrayed. Take her out and replace her with any Bollywood actress and there would have been no change. Juhi is like a refreshing burst of minty chirpiness but thats about it. I still havent figured out what Om Puri is doing in this movie. Or Boman Irani as the "waving friend" who later turns out to be a co-founder of a construction company.

Ya, seems to me a hodge-podge of philosophies from different Aziz Mirza movies.

Enough said.

There goes yet another perfectly good summer weekend.
