Recently while talking about "Lagori" and "Kho" and such other undocumented games that were played in school, I recalled another of those weird ones- it involved a decently long piece of elastic thread wound around the legs of two girls. And a third or fourth or the rest of the girls would jump across the elastic forming different patterns. I mentioned this to a few other friends and no one seems to remember having played this game.
I have not kept in touch with my schoolmates to have them vouch for this, so now it appears that I might just have made it all up!! For the life of me, I cant recall a name for this game, as always it was transitional. We probably played for a couple of months and then moved onto something else, something different, something just as whacky!
So if anyone recalls having played/seen this game specially around "The Home School" area in Basavanagudi, pliss to drop me an email!
So, moving on, hop-scotch of course was another all-time favorite. I hated Lagori, but would play just to not be left out. I might have played kabaddi a handful of times, again, not one of my favorites. And to think, in 1990, it was established as an official game at the Asian Games. Whad'ya know!
For rainy days, cool summer holidays, indoor board games were welcome to stay away from weather constraints as well as to keep us occupied with the Indian version of Mancala, Carrom, Scrabble and does anyone remember Ludo?
Anyone else have any other of these undocumented games?
Game time and TGIF!
Them undocumented games from yore

Emo ,heres something that you can store in your list of "things the chiclet did that can be shared especially during family gatherings"
So now ,it was the 6th standard and S introduced me to Kho-Kho .I was given the kho and the tag ran after me , and when she eventually caught me , I yanked both her pig tails in opposite directions(her head was left figuring out which way to sway more , newton action reaction and all).Needless to say , my next games period i spent playing chess with all too serious class topper
I remember playing 'Dhaayam' with opposite flat aunty during summer.
And snakes and ladders, and chinese checkers.
Wat abt skipping? Twp people standing on opposite sides holding the rope and the girl in between doing all kinds of dances. ;--)
why have you left out pallankuzhi?or had it become outmoded when you were a kid?I remember the I spy game with all of scrambling to weird places to avoid being spied.
Chiclet : NOW, after all these years, I can understand why a lot of your schoolmates want to forget you :).
SK : Yes Dhaayam, a favorite game more of my maternal grandmother's than any of us kids. It was a regular feature after a late afternoon meal of curd rice and mango slices.
HHG : Pallanguzhi is Mancala. Favorite game of my paternal grandmother. Both of them would wait eagerly to get a shot at beating the grandkids with these games. I was trying to recall what the red seeds with which we would play- we'd collect them off the ground near some trees in IISc.
I remember playing "elastic" in my school days and this was in Hyderabad. Probably it was quite famous during "our days" !!! :)
