Unlike "The Devil wears Prada" or "Count of Monte Christo" or the million other movies made from novels, this has been the first time a great book has been translated into a wonderful movie. Its a first in many accounts for me because I have never had movies depict settings exactly as I imagined them to be while reading the book. This one delivers the same setting as though Mira Nair was tuned into one's mind. Delightful depiction of sentiments and emotions, Calcutta's ethnicity and authenticity has been digitally captured with great success and the brilliant star cast ties in with the strong storyline thus earning credits worthy of an academy award.

All in all a wonderful package of visual delight worth every penny spent, every ounce of energy invested.

I've been really wanting to see this. Thanks for the review. I was in India in 1999 and it forever changed my life.
