Hi to all of you that responded to my previous post.
So, its end of one quarter of the year already! Unbelievable isnt it? One of the sweet sounding effects of spring is the voices of birds all over. This weekend my much neglected bird feeder was washed and refilled. And long before that, my back yard has been filled with the notes of robins and sparrows and pigeons. These tunes trickle in when my windchime stops to take a breather or when the wind has stopped howling.
Which brings me to my pet peeve. My voice. I am very thankful I dont have to put up with my minnie-mousish squeaky voice on the phone. That privilege is all for the receiver on the other side, woe is them. Apparently, I am told, this is one of the biggest peeves of public speakers. The antidote is to practice speeches in solitude. Then I'd hate to be a public speaker. Cos I *really cant* stand my voice. Thats probably why I try to manage with IM and emails as much as I can with my friends. I know some people who have a wonderful voice- some sweet, some soothing, some husky, some lilting. All kinds. Mine has a weird mix of a shriek and a squeak. Many times when I've made the mistake of answering telemarketing calls, I've had the person ask me to put my parent on the phone. So you get the idea.
So, whats your take on your voice?
On that note

"Lab tere Mir ne bhi dekhe hai
pankhari ek gulab ki si hai
baat sunte to Ghalib ho jaate"
Kaash ye sach hota, kaash Gulzar Saab ki tarah kiseene ye mere baare mein kaha hota...
Sigh! Hone ko bahut kuch hota, per pate ki baat ye hai, ke aisa kuch na hua.. na hoga.. kyon ki hamari aawaz to ek dam maamooli hai..
I always thot I had a very good recorded talking voice, but all these camcorder recordings have proved me wrong.. I cannot stand my voice at all - I sound heavily congested all the time..
This is my vain spot. I have always liked my voice, thanks to all those telemarketing days where people were okay with talking to me because of my voice.
Okay...this is the extent to which I will permit my ego to bloat and expose itself. :D
Madame,
Check out my blog for a surprise :--D
And my voice.. mmm, I think its squeaky too, although those who had heard me on the phone a LOT say I sound sweet. :--D
I honestly don't know how to answer this q of yours Alt.
Ok - ask T and see what she has to say. She's heard my voice.
Durga : Actually to tell you the truth, though I have heard this term often, I am not sure what it means. What does it mean when one says "one's voice is heavily congested"? Like does that mean its nasal? or husky/heavy? Hm.
T : YOU and VAIN????? :).
SK : Today being April fool's, the doubting Thomas that I am, hm daal mein kuch kaala hai :). But, did check it out. Thanks for the award. Let me get back to you after I finish the acceptance speech :D.
Gauri : Pliss to record a sample and email ;)
Heavily congested would be ya nasal, definitely, it'd be the voice you'd hear when my sinus allergies are at their peak, when I'd want to say "Chandrakanta" and you'd hear me say "Chaddar kanta" ;-)))
LOL
Nowadays, it is mostly scream/shout/silence. I used to have an 'emcee' voice ages ago. Based on that, my teacher thought I probably could sing well. Poor lady, the joke was on her.
I am okay with my voice usually - I have sometimes got the "your voice sounds so sweet" compliment from people on the phone :-).
However, my recorded and played back voice sounds so darn awful (and not at all like me) to me. But others say that sounds close to my "real" voice :-( (you do know that your voice as you hear in your head is not the voice others hear when you talk) - go figure!
p.s. I can't sing to save my life :-D!
